Case Notes Services
Enterprise Services Manager (ESM)
The Enterprise Services Manager (ESM) provides resilient operation across a range of key identification and security services at local or national level through the provision of dynamic service switching, coupled with the provision of equivalent local services.
The ESM is a tool for Case Notes' Demographics, Authentication, Workgroup and Relationship Management services. These services support the core Case Notes product by managing key information used in patient identification, user/patient relationships and access permissions to tasks and patient data.
The ESM manages the links between those Case Notes services and the registers they use for patient and user details. When an external register service is in use, such as a regional or national patient index, the ESM seamlessly manages the communication between the Case Notes service and the external register service.
If there is no external register, Case Notes uses an equivalent internal register service such as a Master Patient Index, without any changes to the user.
ESM & The NHS Care Records Service
The Enterprise Services Manager also provides interfacing between Case Notes and the NHS Care Records Service or ‘Spine’. It provides interfacing between Case Notes and the following core Spine services.
- Personal Demographics Service (PDS)
- Legitimate Relationship Service (LRS)
- Spine Directory Service (SDS)
- Spine Security Broker (SSB)
Working with the Spine, the ESM manages all Case Notes components which need to interface with it so that users can access Spine services. The ESM also contains ‘helper’ components for constructing Spine specific messages. These components include a unique identifier generator and an HL7 to ebXML mapping tool.
The Enterprise Services Manager ensures that:
- Local systems interface with the NHS Care Records Service as required by the UK government’s National Programme for IT (NPfIT)
- The NHS Care Records Service contains up-to-date information about all patients held on the Case Notes system
